#TheaterPH - An EPIC ride back to Narnia with The Horse and His Boy! #EpicRide

C.S. Lewis' The Horse and His Boy
Adapted by Luna GriƱo from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Directed by Jaime del Mundo

As a fitting follow- up to its much-acclaimed musical adaptation of C. S. Lewis' THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, TRUMPETS proudly presents THE HORSE AND HIS BOY.

Based on one of the books from Lewis' THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, THE HORSE AND HIS BOY is the tale of an orphan boy, Shasta, and a talking horse, Bree, as they journey towards freedom from oppression and slavery. They fly from a foreign land to Narnia, the place the horse calls home, and where the boy hopes to find who he is and where he truly belongs.

Along the way, they are joined by a young noblewoman, Aravis, and a talking mare, Hwin, who both share their desire for freedom. Together they embark on a grand adventure through deserts and mountains, risk near capture, encounter danger, face the unknown, take part in a battle and, finally, find themselves and their destined place in the sun.

Reconnect with beloved characters from THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE – the grownup Susan, Edmund and Lucy now reigning monarchs of Narnia , the faun Tumnus and, of course, the Great Lion, Aslan, and meet many new colorful and fascinating characters.

In the words of Director Jaime del Mundo, THE HORSE AND HIS BOY will be something totally new and exciting as it will "look like a musical, feel like a musical, have music plus a song or two but will not be a musical."

Join TRUMPETS on this new adventure - a non-musical adaptation of C. S. Lewis' beloved book, THE HORSE AND HIS BOY.

Taking Gifting to the Next Level! #MerrySMChristmas2015 #SeasonOfGifting

Everyone's raving about Christmas. As we all know, -ber months here in the Philippines officially mark the start of the Christmas craze. Other countries even tagged Philippines as the country which celebrates Christmas season the longest. People say that Christmas is only for kids but as for me, it's for everyone. This is a season of giving oneself to others and also a time to anticipate the coming of the newborn Jesus Christ.

I believe that is in giving that we truly receive. As Christmas is fast approaching, I laid out three (3) questions I wanna share my answers to you.

1. What is your Christmas wish list for yourself?

As I grow older, I come to realize that the best gift one can receive is not through material things. I find value more on the time well spent with loved ones, sharing stories of travel experiences with backpackers or strangers, trying out gastronomic and delightful dishes with foodies and updating on what's the latest buzz with dear friends. I can't bring all the earthly things given to me when I die though I still find value on the gifts given by people who matter to me. If you'll insist, here's my Christmas wishlist this year.

1. Running Shoes

2. Yoga Mat

3. New Pair of Poi

4. Snorkeling Gears

2. What are you Christmas gift ideas for your loved ones this year?

When it comes to giving gifts, I always make it a point that there's a "Leo" or "Kevin" trademark. I want my gifts to be personalized or at some point DIY in nature. I prefer to give gifts that would be perfect for one's personality as it will tell how close I am to a particular person in my circle. I come up with a list on some gift ideas that may be beneficial to you.

For Fathers...
- a leather wallet

- a nice bottle of red wine, rhum or whisky

- wrist watch

- a buffet for 2

For Mothers...
- Personalized Pillow

- a nice set of curtains

- a massage package

For Brothers...
- Happy socks

- Gym Bag

- WakeBoarding adventure

For Sisters...
- Perfume

- Adult Coloring Book

- Gift Certificate Makeover

For Best Friends...
- Matching shirts from Kultura

- Super Hero Themed Shirt

- an earphone

For Lovers...
- Refreshing Tea

- a candlelight dinner

- a thank you card

For Officemates...
- personalized office mug

- colorful post-its

- hand sanitizer

Victoria Court #VPartySeries Midnight Mysteries. Can You Survive?

Another first for Victoria Court!

Mark your calendars for November 7, 2015 and get ready for the ultimate Halloween event of the year! FOX International Channels and Victoria Court are partnering up with Breakout Philippines, the country’s premiere escape room game, to bring you an immersive horror experience like no other!

Ever since 2014, Breakout has been providing a unique experience to thousands of players by trapping them in different themed rooms for 45 minutes. They are given an interactive game where players have to team up to find clues and solve logic puzzles based on various storylines. Participants are encouraged to PLAN as a team, SOLVE puzzles collaboratively in order to ESCAPE before time expires.

This Halloween season, the game is about to change as it is no longer enough to BREAKOUT… you must now also SURVIVE! You and your friends will be trapped in a room and will have 45 minutes to try and survive the horror set before you.

There will be scare actors that will enter and exit the room as they please. Some will be nice and try to help you by giving you clues, while some… are not. Be prepared as they invade your personal space, tell you bone chilling stories, separate you from your friends and sometimes, even leave you alone in the dark. Be ready to be pushed out of your comfort zone.

This is still a BREAKOUT event so there is still puzzle solving involved. You will still choose among the 5 Super-thematic Rooms of Victoria Court Malate, which will determine the style of the overall puzzle you will have to solve:

1. The Asgard Room
2. The Casino Royale Room
3. The Bat Cave Room
4. The Candy Land Room
5. The Marakkesh (Sex in the City) Room

If the scares get too extreme for you, there is a safe word… screaming “I want my mommy” will signal our actors to back off and bring you back to your friends. Though be warned, doing so will forfeit the clue you may receive by surviving the scare. Missing out on 1 clue won’t make it impossible to solve the puzzle, but it will make it very difficult. So wear your brown pants and as much as you can, brave up!

To add up to the scare, there will be a free fear flicks marathon happening at the Victoria Court grounds from 6PM until 12PM.

The breakout rooms have limited slots, so be sure to register now through www.breakout.com.ph.

You can also visit Victoria Court’s facebook page (facebook.com/VictoriaCourtPH) or  follow their Twitter & Instagram (@victoriacourtVC)) for more updates about this event.

Prepare yourselves for a scare that you won’t forget. See you there!

Did You Know That: 9 in 10 Filipinos ”highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause?

MANILA, Philippines - Nine in 10 Filipino consumers surveyed by global nutrition company Herbalife are “highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause them, with the same number believing that simple lifestyle changes can help improve their overall well-being.

A good number of the respondents expressed willingness to adopt a healthy lifestyle; 79 percent said that they would cut down on unhealthy foods, 78 percent expressed their willingness to exercise more regularly, and 72 percent said they would make better nutrition choices.

“We welcome the results of the survey. It gives an understanding of Filipinos becoming even more health concious and self-aware that they need to make some lifestyle changes to improve their overall well-being. It also gives Herbalife an idea where we are needed, because as the survey revealed only four out of 10 would spend 10 to 30 minutes a day to make simple lifestyle changes,” said Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines General Manager.

The respondents, however, cited the following as the top obstacles to achieving a healthy lifestyle: lack of time for exercise (75 percent), lack of time to make proper nutrition choices (64 percent), and high cost of healthy food (62 percent).

The same health poll likewise showed that the top three aging-related concerns in the country were heart, brain, and eye health.

Better knowledge and understanding

“The findings from the Herbalife survey clearly show that the majority of people in Asia Pacific that we questioned believe in the value of good nutrition and exercise as contributing to their overall well-being. We aim to play a greater role in providing practical tips and information to people to help them understand that the journey to a healthier, more active lifestyle is not difficult to achieve. With as little as 10 minutes a day, consumers can take positive steps to improve their nutrition and be more active, which will improve their overall well-being,” said William M. Rahn, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife Asia Pacific.

Herbalife conducted the survey in September 2015 in the lead-up to its Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour. It surveyed 1,200 respondents across six countries, including the Philippines, on perceptions towards their health and current lifestyle. Respondents from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand were likewise included in the survey.

Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour

Now on its fourth year, the Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour aims to deepen people’s practical understanding of the various aspects of living a healthy active lifestyle. Its previous tours in the past three years saw close to 60,000 participants across the region.

This year’s Wellness Tour will feature five members of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) visiting 14 markets and 21 cities across the Asia-Pacific in the month of October. They will share their expert views on how people can make use of the little time they have to make simple lifestyle changes that will enhance their well-being.

Herbalife’s NAB experts will likewise share their views on a wide range of health-related topics, including weight management, brain health and aging; heart health; immunology; and skin care at the medical symposia being held in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnamn.

The Herbalife NAB experts participating in this year’s Wellness Tour include Dr. David Heber, who incidentally will be coming to Manila, is a leading expert in the field of nutrition and named as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and considered one of “The Best Doctors in America”; Dr. Lou Ignarro, a Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 1998 for his discovery of nitric oxide’s health benefits; Dr. Gary Small, a specialist in brain health and aging who has authored over 500 scientific works and has received numerous awards and honors, including the “Senior Investigator Award” from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry; Dr. Marion Fltechner-Mors, a health nutrition specialist who is currently heading the nutrition and obesity research group at Ulm University, Germany; and Dr. Wang Jae Lee, a physician and academic specializing in immunology and a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine.

Dr. Heber, who is the founding Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles, will be conducting a symposium for free to Filipino medical practitioners on October 23, 9am, at the Manila Hotel. The symposium will gather a group of 100 doctors, nurses, physical therapists and medical practitioners. The title of the symposium is “Obesity: More Than Just Being Overweight and Nutrition Forecast for 2020.” Seminars of Dr. Heber are recognized by US hospitals as part of Continuing Education Studies, which are often required of applicants. The following day, Oct. 24, Dr. Heber will be holding seminars for thousands of Herbalife Independent Members in the same hotel.

This is the first time Dr. Heber, who is also the Chairman of the NAB and the Herbalife Nutrition Institute, to conduct a seminar in Manila since the company was founded in the Philippines 22 years ago.

#ArtPh - Man Made by Yan Abeledo

Opening reception: 4 November, Wednesday, 6pm
Exhibit duration: 4 to 22 November 2015
Bulwagang Fernando Amorsolo (Small Gallery)
Art in Science, Science in Art - An Open Forum: 11 November, 2pm at the MKP Hall

Posthumanism is an idealistic narrative of an alternative future where man triumphs over the limitations of biology through technology. It is a lens that can be used to analyze a future dominated by artificial life. In a posthuman future, the contrasts between the natural and artificial will diminish. More sophisticated forms of human enhancement may be achieved by tampering with biology and natural processes, invariably considered by critics as playing god.

Artist Yan Abeledo uses discarded tools from biotechnology laboratories to explore how content is created in the mind of the viewer through materiality. The art process for the pieces in the exhibit Man Made is modeled after the tissue culture practice—loosely appropriated and re-contextualized for art production: a“scaffold” that dictates the final shape of the grown tissue is designed (construction of base shape), it is covered with specialized nutritive substances that facilitates the adherence of the tissue (layering of microcrystalline wax), cells are seeded to form building blocks (attachment of micropipette tips), these cells then multiply and cover the surface of the scaffold (formation of sculptures), and once fully formed the grown organ can then be transplanted to a host (gallery installation). This expands the art historical frame of appropriation while venturing into science as a theme in contemporary art.

Abeledo’s artworks are created through a slow process of accumulation—closely following the natural process of biological development. This facet is accentuated through audience participation as they aid the “growth” of the installation. In the process, contaminations and mutations may occur, but such is the chaotic nature of life, even in the confines and control of a “scientific laboratory”.

Man Made exposes the increasing impact of biotechnology on human life by highlighting the boundaries between natural forms with artificial origins—mimicking human organs through the use of the same materials utilized in the study of life at the molecular level.

Someone Covered Me Up for Best Food Forward 2015!

For the past years, I've been attending Best Food Forward to immerse myself to different products and services made available by local business owners to the market. As this year's their 5th already, I was caught up in a conflicting schedule that made me contact a good friend to cover the event on behalf of me. I wanna share to you the experience of Saul as he attended Best Food Forward 2015.

The colorful balloons indicate the event as festive.
Last October 10 and 11, one of the biggest and best food fairs celebrated it's 5th anniversary at the Rockwell Tent. Best Food Forward 2015 housed the familiar, the innovative, and the most indulgent food cravings that could be gathered in the Metro.

Coming from a morning from at National Museum, I was famished and was looking forward to seeing and tasting different kinds of gastronomic treats that would fill up my stomach until I can't take it anymore. There weren't much meals inside but Natalia's Rustic Kitchen caught my attention.

I got an order of Homamade Meatloaf in Tomato Chickpea Sauce with smoked bacon, preserved lemons and rice. The rice was normal but the rest is as good as it sounds. The meatloaf is the kind that you expect from a family gathering, except this time, it is accentuated by the smokiness of bacon and the tangy taste of the tomato and some lemons.
Sinfully delectable.

Partly full, I continued going around the Tent. Thirsty, I was on the lookout for the not-so-usual drink while I was offered left and right to taste mostly pastries. Guyabano was a drink that I would associate with Zesto, when I saw that it was available "All Natural," I immediately bought a bottle of from Red Robin. It did satisfy me but it was just a bit too sweet.

This led me to going through the different dessert stalls again. And two stood out for me. Both featured Tablea. And the first one made the best Tablea Fudge Bars! I was hesitant at first but when we were given a piece, I knew that I had to take some home! Choco ATBP's fudge bars were dark and rich but not overwhelming. They are available in Classic, Sugarfree, Delightful Orange, Tsoko Sili. Since I wanted to be adventurous, I got the orange and sili variants.

My Best Food Forward experience ended with the sweetest note with Wadough's. They had a 20-Yolk Yema cake, Breakfast Cookies (ingredients include breakfast food such as coffee, oatmel, and bacon), and the best Tablea Cake I've tasted! Unlike usual, Tablea 2.0's texture was smooth without compromising the flavor. A little Jack Daniels made it much better than the rest!

Choose Your Juice!

Bitter Sweet, The way I like it.

I highly recommend Choco ATBP and Wadough's for Christmas! Connect with them through the following links:
