#UpNorth Series: Above the Clouds at Mt. Jumbo/ Mt. Jambo/ Mt. Yangbew

"How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains!"
― John Muir, The Mountains of California

I never heard about Mt. Jambo (referred as Mt. Yangbew by the locals) until I saw our itinerary for a short vacation in Baguio. I become ecstatic since I just conquered a mountain last February and now I am climbing another mountain 2 months after. The thought of being part of the mountains a regular activity makes my heart filled with happy thoughts.

The early birds. :)

Call time in Azalea Residences Baguio was at 4:30 am as the motive was to watch the sunrise from the summit. Forecast of sunrise was at 5:45 am.

Obligatory photo.

And the trails STARTS here!

Greens everywhere.

Full of excitement, each step is one step closer above.

Leading the pack.

View when I decided to look back.

Waiting for these awesome people to reach the TOP. (They don't know I am taking a picture of them ;p)

ALMOST THERE!!!
The mountain has been called Mt. Jambo because this place is a favorite venue for scout related activities or assembly (jamboree).

Reached the CAMPING AREA. So clean no?

With Paul of Azalea Residences Baguio. On our LAST ASCEND..

Goal achieved! Reached the summit just in time for this beautiful SUNRISE.

Enjoying the view while waiting for the others to reach the top.

At this moment, I prayed and thanked God for letting me see his awesome creation. I got chills man!

Summer feels. hahaha.

You can see Benguet's rolling hills and jagged mountain peaks at the summit of Mt. Jumbo. The entirety of La Trinidad can also be seen at the top.

Mountain range.

La Trinidad from the top.

Started our descend after having a snack at the summit.

How to get there:

via Public Transpo

1. There's a station located near the bridge in Pines Park (KM. 4) where jeepney passes through. Tell the driver that you will alight at Sitio Banig in Tawang or you may just said the magic word "Mt. Jumbo" so the driver can drop you off right at the starting trail.

2.  Another option is to pass through Tomay or Cruz, La Trinidad. You may take a jeepney bound to Tomay and ask the driver to drop you off at the junction leading to Tawang. You need to hike a little bit and then ask the residents the jump off for Mt. Jumbo's trails.

via Private Car

Passed by La Trinidad Market, Municipal Hall, Benguet State University. Once you reached the Provincial Capitol, turn right. You will passed by the entrance of Mount Kalugong. When you reached Baranggay Tawang,  look for Tawang Elementary school and ask locals for the  direction leading to the trail.

Open arms for more adventures like this. Thank you Azalea Residences Baguio and Heart Shaper Inc!

Note: You need to pay 35 pesos as Environmental/Entrance Fee. For guests checked in Azalea Residences Baguio, they offer tour packages that your family or group may enjoy. Just approach any of their staff and they will gladly assist you!
