#TheaterPH - 5 Major Reasons Why You Should Watch HAPPINESS IS A PEARL!

Before becoming a prostitute in a club in Kabukicho, Tokyo, Mari was married to a wealthy businessman. But Mari’s billionaire husband soon leaves her when she becomes attached to a male gigolo named Kenji, who has a pearl stitched under the skin of his penis. However, Kenji sets his eyes on a poverty-stricken Filipina entertainer named Maria. Intertwined by fate and struggles, how will Kenji, Maria, and Mari find the true meaning of love and happiness ?

I am giving you 5 major reasons why you should watch Artists Playground's Happiness Is A Pearl.

1. It's a Rody Vera material.

Rody Vera loved writing ever since his youth but it was in his second year in high school when he got exposed and interested in the theater arts. Soon after, he joined seminars and workshops, including Philippine Educational Theater Association, where he honed his skills in writing as well as his talent in acting.
Vera writes absurdist plays and adopts several novels into plays. His adaptations include “Masa” and “Ang mga Huwad” which are based from Sionil Jose’s Rosales Saga novels, “Mass” and “The Pretenders” respectively. His works received a number of awards from National Literary Contests such as Palanca and Centennial Prizes. Truly, this is a material you shouldn't miss.
2. It's RAW!

The cast  features guest artists Ruth Alferez (Mari); indie film actor Tomas Miranda (Kenji); together with The Players, Artist Playground’s very own group of artists namely Cath Go (Mari, alternate), Jerome Rosalin (Kenji, alternate); Shiela Espina and Irra Ruzz (Maria).  These young artists proves that they can act by portraying very challenging roles. I love the rawness coming from each and every one of the cast.
3. Intelligent Choreography

Performed in a small stage, movement is very critical in this material. I was really impressed with
Lezlie Dailisan's attack on Happiness is a Pearl. The tango salvo was a breathtaking moment for the actors and it was heightened by the execution of the choreography. Lezlie is a promising choreographer as he jumped from a mainstream dance group to the theater scene.
4. It's intimate.

Little Room Upstairs is located at Landsdale Tower, Mother Ignacia St. corner Timog Avenue, Quezon City which can only accommodate 30 audiences per run. Having a small space keeps every show an intimate moment. The feeling of being in the moment will surely be an additional edge with the other theater shows you've seen before.
5. It will hit you so hard you'll realize…

You'll realize a lot of things while and after watching the show. The question of what will you do for love is one. Being intertwined by fate and struggle is another. Happiness is a Pearl is a good material that will surely touch you and hit you hard.

You can still watch Happiness is a Pearl as shows still run until July 3, 2016 with 7 pm shows from Wednesday – Friday; 3 pm and 7 pm shows  every Saturday and Sunday.
