#SocialMedia - My 26th Birthday!

It has been a roller coaster ride of emotions as I spent my 25th year of existence. Got a recognition for my blog, traveled by land, air and sea, signed up for a new career in the I.T. industry, bullied online, got hospitalized, lost one of my life mentors, lost my dad and auntie due to cancer, and a lot more. I've been into the highest highs and lowest lows.

As I turn a year older, I realized that I can pin point people who were true to me and managed to be there with me during good and bad moments of my life. I realized that family will never ever leave you and will always be your support system. Friends are extension of your family; a source of strength and good judgement. I realized that there's no other time to move forward but today.

Now that I am over 25, I'll keep surrounding myself with people who shares the same passion, inspires me to be a better version of who I am and those who exudes love and compassion. I'll keep creating happy moments and continue to be an instrument of inspiration to people who are hungry for more experiences that life has to offer.

To everyone who has been part of my journey so far, no amount of words can express how truly grateful I am to have you on it. May we all continue to strive for greatness, multiply the joy in our hearts and live in the moment.

For all that has been, thanks! For all that will be, yes! Cheers to more years of awesomeness!

That in all things, God may be glorified.

#TravelPH - Pinoy Shopping Experience at Tutuban Center!

Christmas is around the corner and for sure a lot of people are now starting to create Christmas shopping list may it be for gift giving or for personal enjoyment. I am glad to revisit the newly re-opened Tutuban Center in Manila.

Friends from the media has been given PhP 1000 worth of paper money to shop certain items from the given list. The items listed has 3 categories: Halloween related, Christmas related and personal items. The given paper money can only be used on designated and affiliated stores inside the newly renovated Tutuban Center.

Excited to fill this shopping bag with all good stuff!

Purchase a perfume for PhP 100.00 Super affordable!

Bought this sando for PhP 100.00
After strolling around Tutuban Center, we got hungry. Thank God there were delicious dimsum from El Presidente Binondo to cap off the experience.

Mouth watering dimsum from El Presidente Binondo! Legit! :)

I won the over all challenge for being the first one to complete the shopping list within the given budget. I only spent PhP 996.00 out of the PhP 1000.00 and bought around more than 20 items.

I will definitely be going back to Tutuban Center and shop more items not just for Christmas but for other occasions as well. See you when I see you!

Have you tried shopping at Tutuban Center? I would love to hear about your experiences!

#TheaterPH - Tanghalang Ateneo Season 38: De/Constructing Narratives opens with BOY!

Tanghalang Ateneo, the longest-running theater company of the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de Manila University opens its 38th season: De/Constructing Narratives with Boy, a thought-provoking new play by award-winning American playwright Anna Ziegler. This will go onstage at the Ateneo de Manila’s Black Box Theater (Fine Arts Annex) on October 19-November 12.

The play, which just had its world premiere produced by Keen Company in New York City earlier this year, is translated into Filipino by Guelan Varela-Luarca and directed by Ed Lacson, Jr. Tanghalang Ateneo’s production of this play not only serves as its Philippine premiere but is also its first international staging and the first one produced outside of the original New York City production.

Boy is a story of self-realization and gender identity, a journey to find one’s self amidst doubt and confusion. The play follows the life of Adam Turner who, as a new-born baby, had an unfortunate medical accident resulting in his parents de-ciding to raise him as a girl upon the advice of a renowned psychologist. As Adam grows older, his confusion about who he is and what he wants to become in life becomes more and more apparent that his parents eventually decide to reveal to him his biological gender. The discovery leads Adam to re-create himself, severing all communication with his psychologist.

Cholo Ledesma plays this challenging title role.
Teroy Guzman plays Dr. Wendell Barnes, Adam’s psychologist. Passionate about his work and ideals, Dr. Barnes has trouble looking past his own intentions to see the tragic consequences of his actions.

Camille Abaya plays Jenny, Adam’s love interest. A down-to-earth, single mother, Jenny is confused about Adam’s temperament and his relentless persis-tence in wanting to pursue a relationship with her.

Wenah Nagales
Mayen Estanero

Mayen EstaƱero and Wenah Nagales alternate as Trudy, Adam’s mother. Like all mothers, Trudy has always tried to look out for the best interests of her child but is undone by her desperation to find an immediate solution to a life-altering problem.

Juliene Mendoza plays Doug, Adam’s father. Often absent because of work, Doug leaves the responsibility of raising Adam to Dr. Barnes and Trudy, with terri-ble consequences.
A nominee for the 2016 Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Award, Boy was inspired by a real-life psychological case study conducted in the U.S. from the late ‘60s to the early ‘90s. This study, commonly referred to as the case of “Dr. Money And The Boy With No Penis,” is about a botched circumcision that leads to the child’s parents seeking the help of renowned sexologist Dr. John Money who agrees to the counseling of the child in exchange for conducting the study.

The artistic team of Boy is composed of Glenn Sevilla Mas (Artistic Director and Company Moderator, Tanghalang Ateneo), Ed Lacson, Jr. (Director and Set Designer), Guelan Varela-Luarca (Translator), Teresa Barrozo (Sound Designer and Original Music Composer), Barbie Tan-Tiongco (Lighting Designer), Carlo Pa-gunaling (Costume Designer), and Ange Espiritu (Graphics Designer).

The playdates of Boy are October 19-22, 25-29, November 4-5, and 8-12. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday matinee shows start at 2:30 p.m.

#FitnessPH - Get cured from Hepa C!

“Four years ago, having Hepatitis C was a death sentence because there was no cure yet,” related former photographer, action star, and movie producer, Derek Dee.

That was the time when he discovered he had the dreaded disease. “It was just through a routine blood test,” he shared figuring that he may have contracted it through the use of contaminated needles in his wild days, around 30 years ago.

“The thing with Hepatitis C is, the symptoms don’t show up until it is too late, until you are already very ill. One of the most common causes of liver-based sicknesses is Hepatitis C.” said Derek.

According the Word Hepatitis Alliance, about 80 to 150 million people are dealing daily with Hepatitis C but there is not much information about it available, especially in the Philippines.

That is why Derek decided to share his experiences and insights with other Hepatitis C patients and the public in general through his Facebook page, @hepcured and his website, hepcured.net.

“I had so much doubt getting into this because of the stigma. I didn’t really want to come out, I just wanted to keep quiet. But the mission came up when a friend I haven’t talked with in many years suddenly showed up and the first thing he told me was that he has Hep C and he didn’t know anything about it, he was not aware that there is a cure. Shortly after that incident, another friend got in touch with me, with the same story. That’s when I decided to speak up. It doesn’t matter what people will think of me, if my advocacy can save the lives of even a few, then it would have been worth it,” explained the father of budding model Michelle (21) and educator Maxine (22).

Derek’s life was saved by his own persistence in researching for a cure. His initial search for a solution to his illness brought him many heartaches and disappointments. The only options he found were drugs which had deadly side effects and low cure rates.

Then two years ago, a medicine with a cure rate of 94%-97% was discovered but it was prohibitively priced. So he went into the digital realm to find out his chances of getting the medicine outside the US, where the drug was priced cheaper. This led him to Singapore General Hospital Pharmacy which was willing to order the miracle drug for him at a slightly lower cost.

After getting the treatment, he is now free of the virus and is officially cured. But he realized that these drugs are not affordable and accessible to many. This started him on a virtual journey looking for generic medicines, which led him to India. There, the cost is so much less (USD1,000) than the original price of USD90,000. And now, with the new generic treatments that are very affordable and just as effective as the originals, the cure is available to all.

Derek believes that it is through constant updating and sharing of knowledge that the disease can be identified, battled, and defeated. Through HepCured, Hepatitis C patients can be part of a community of seekers for the cure, called The Cure Club. The Cure Club endeavors to search for treatments and remedies that are more accessibly priced and can be found in non-traditional sources.

Derek would like everyone to know that Hepatitis C is just a word, not a sentence. There is a way to beat it!
