FitPH - PRURide PH 2019 A HUGE Success!

About 3,000 professional and recreational cyclists successfully biked their way to the finish line of the recently concluded PRURide PH 2019, the country’s biggest cycling festival, held on May 24-26 at Harbor Point, Subic.

“Congratulations to all our participants who made the first UCI 2.2-accredited PRURide PH a huge success. We hope that not only were they able to achieve their personal cycling goals but also enjoyed our fun activities that were open for everybody,” says Allan M. Tumbaga, Pru Life UK Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Marketing Officer.

Fun for everyone

Apart from competitive cycling events like Masters Race and Stage Race, PRURide PH also offered activities suitable for everyone like the Gran Fondo in 30, 60, and 100 kilometers. Ambassadors Gretchen Ho, Kim Atienza, and Zoren Legaspi joined a thousand other enthusiasts as they cycled through Olongapo and Bataan.

Other exciting activities that the public enjoyed include the Virtual Race finals. The top 10 finalists from qualifying rounds around Metro Manila battled it out for the shortest time cycling a 5.7km course in a stationary bike. Joey Delos Reyes of Philippine Standard Insurance Navy Team eventually won with a record 9:20 minutes, earning himself a Storck Carbon Fiber Road Bike worth Php150,000.

Families enjoyed a friendly competition as their children age two to six years old raced using no pedal bikes in the Strider Cup finals. Meanwhile, the public also enjoyed free zumba session, massage, health check stations, face paint, and a lot more freebies and giveaways all throughout the venue. OPM bands Gracenote and Callality also engaged music fans in a free concert.

He also won the Best Filipino Rider and King of the Mountain titles after outracing more than 150 professional cyclists in the three-day sporting event. Felipe received a plaque, a token, and Php120,000. He also earned additional 16 UCI points to help qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Moreover, Filipino teams conquered the leaderboard of the General Team Classification, leading 22 other continental teams across Asia and Australia. Philippine Navy Standard Insurance bagged the championship, followed by Go for Gold Continental Cycling Team and 7-11 CLIQQ AIR21. They won plaques and Php100,000, Php80,000, and Php50,000, respectively.

“We are thrilled to give our local cyclists a platform like PRURide PH to excel and show the world that we can compete in international cycling events. We congratulate everyone who successfully completed Stage Race and we hope to see our international competitors next year,” adds Tumbaga.
