A connoisseur of art himself, Congressman Eric D. Singson, has always advocated the promotion of tourism through the integration of music, culture and arts. When I personally asked him his vision for this one, he shared that he's hoping to turn this as an annual activity and eventually will grow to a full blown Music and Arts Festival since the city is also dubbed as City of Arts and Culture.

Congressman Eric D. Singson all out for Candon Music Festival

In fact, the Candon Music Festival is an offshoot of the first concert in Candon City, through the initiative of Congressman Eric D. Singson in partnership with the MDS Foundation staged in 2008. The concert dubbed Intay Lagipen (Let us Remember) reintroduced music and culture to the city.

During the press launch, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab shared that he created a new orchestration for the Candon Hymn which was written by Congressman Eric D. Singson's mother. He's eager to meet the later to share the music he had created. Mrs. Minerva Singson will turn 100 years old by December 2019.

To ensure continuity of the program and as part of the long term plan, eight (8) young people were sent on a scholarship to the Conservatory of Music at St. Paul University Manila. After graduation, they joined the MDS Foundation to teach the young children and the youth of Candon City to sing and play musical instruments. Intensive Summer Camps are held regularly to foster the appreciation for music instilled in the new generation of Ilocanos.

The Candon Music Festival is truly a celebration of music and the talents of these young musicians as much as an invitation to locals and tourists from nearby districts and provinces, to bask in the many forms of aesthetics Candon City has to offer.

Free concert passes are available at partner establishments and government offices. Limited free concert passes will also be issued on site.
