#FoodPH - Tuna Festival Experience at Cafe Ilang-Ilang

General Santos City, often known as Gensan, transforms into a vivid tapestry of hues, flavors, and traditions every year as it hosts the most sumptuous event in the Philippines: the Tuna Festival. While highlighting the city's thriving economy, this event also honors the tuna business, which gives Gensan its title as the "Tuna Capital of the Philippines."

Gensan's Tuna Festival, which was established in 1998 and marks its 25th anniversary this year, aims to celebrate the abundant seas that are teeming with marine resources like tuna and the ensuing tuna industry, which continues to thrive and has elevated General Santos City to the undisputed tuna capital of the country.

In celebration of this tradition, Café Ilang-Ilang embarks on a culinary journey that puts the spotlight on the ocean’s prized gem—tuna.

This tuna ceviche is so refreshing! Tuna is marinated in fresh lime juice with onion, chili, cucumber, mango, shredded crab sticks and cilantro. Fresh and bright, this dish is a must-try!

In addition to the immense buffet choices, the Tuna Festival at Café Ilang-Ilang promises to be a culinary excursion that features a wide variety of tuna dishes. Tuna Kilawin, Tuna Chicharon, Sinigang Tuna Panga sa Miso, Bistek Tuna Belly, Tuna Bicol Express, Sizzling Tuna Sisig, Tuna Kare Kare, Grilled Tuna Steak, Tuna Putannesca, and Indian Tandoori Tuna Kebab are just a few of the dishes offered.

Tuna Salpicao is a dish featuring tuna cubes coated in a savory garlic sauce with chunks of button mushrooms.

Famously prepared with pig ears, head, and liver, sisig is frequently spiced with calamansi and chili peppers. However, you cannot always have pig ears or a head at home. Thus, substituting tuna for the pork made this dish healthier.

Special tuna dishes are available on a rotating line-up at Café Ilang-Ilang’s lunch and dinner buffet until September 30, 2023.
