#FoodPH - Taco Bell Opens at SM Fairview

North Quezon City runs on a very specific kind of math. You clock out, or your last class ends, or you finally escape whatever errand had you crisscrossing Commonwealth or Regalado, and the question hits before you've even decided where you're walking: is it worth the extra fifteen minutes for the food you actually want, or do you settle for whatever's closest to the jeepney stop. Most days, closest wins. Cravings lose to convenience, again.

SM Fairview has spent years being the answer to that math for a huge stretch of the north side. It is less a mall than a landmark, the place where after-school hangouts, weekend family lunches, and post-work decompressions all quietly converge, mostly because it's simply there, reliable, and impossible to avoid if you live anywhere nearby. Which is exactly why it makes sense as the newest home for a name that Metro Manila diners already have strong opinions about.

Taco Bell has opened its doors at the Upper Ground Level of Centralwalk in SM Fairview, and the branch isn't a scaled-down teaser version of the brand. It's the full lineup: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, the sides people specifically drive across town for, and the drinks that somehow always taste better with a Crunchwrap in hand. For a corridor of the metro that has had to travel south or east just to get a proper taco fix, that's less a menu expansion and more a small shift in the daily commute calculus.

ChaCha Juinio, COO of PPI Holdings, Inc., framed the opening as an entry point into a community that's been steadily growing on its own terms, one where a familiar flavor could slot into routines that already exist rather than asking people to build new ones around it. It's a fair read of how north siders actually eat. Nobody in Fairview is rearranging their week around a restaurant. They're looking for the place that fits into the week they already have, whether that's a rushed lunch between errands, a catch-up with friends after the last bell rings, or dinner that doesn't require anyone to cook.

That's really the appeal of the Crunchwrap Supreme and the Grilled Stuft Burrito showing up on this side of the city. They're not new to Manila, but they're new to *here*, and there's a difference between knowing a craving exists and having it fifteen minutes from your front door. Juinio put it plainly when she talked about the choice of location: the brand wants to be present where its customers already are, not somewhere they have to plan a trip for.

There's a bit of serendipity in the timing, too. Right next door, Pizza Hut's SM Fairview branch has just gotten a refresh of its own, still slinging its Pan Pizzas and WingStreet wings, which means a single walk down Centralwalk now covers two very different cravings. Pizza night and taco night, resolved in one trip, no group chat debate required.

What's quietly interesting about all this isn't the menu, though. It's what it says about how north Metro Manila eats now. For years, the food map of Quezon City tilted heavily toward its older, more established corridors, leaving newer, denser communities like Fairview's surroundings to make do with whatever landed nearby. That's shifting. Brands are starting to follow the foot traffic instead of assuming people will chase the brand, and a mall that's spent two decades being the default hangout spot is finally getting the lineup to match its reputation. The craving was always there. It just took this long for the commute to catch up to it.
