#TechPH - San Juan Turned an Appliance Store Into a Living Room for an Afternoon, and Yeng Constantino Showed Up
Haier Philippines seems to think that peace was premature.
Last August 20, the brand teamed up with Abenson to turn the Greenhills flagship store into what they called a “Home of Possibilities,” which sounds like the kind of phrase a press release writer coined at 2am, except the afternoon actually delivered on it. There were category KOLs walking guests through appliances the way a friend would, a Haier x PBA basketball arcade for anyone who needed a break from being sold to, and a closing set from Yeng Constantino that turned a retail activation into something closer to a small concert. It was less showroom, more open house.
But the real story was quieter, buried in the specs sheets most people skim past. Take the Horizon Refrigerator, which separates its ice-making system from the rest of the compartment through something called Pure Space Ice, so your tubig doesn’t end up tasting like whatever’s in the crisper drawer. Its NutriBank feature uses magnetic control to keep meat fresh up to five times longer, and an antibacterial system called ABT Pro claims to eliminate up to 99.99% of bacteria and odors. For a household that shops in bulk on payday and stretches it through the month, that’s not a gimmick. That’s Wednesday’s ulam surviving until Sunday.
The air conditioner leans into voice control and an AI Eco mode that adjusts itself as the room’s needs change, alongside UVC sterilization and Wi-Fi control, essentially trying to make the unit think a little so you don’t have to. The Iris Top Load Washing Machine takes on tangled clothes with Double Drive Technology, premixes water and detergent through its Essence Wash system for faster cycles, and keeps garments smelling fresh for up to 12 hours post-wash through a feature called Fresh Air Deodorization. Small, unglamorous problems, solved without fanfare.
Then there’s the 100-inch Mini LED TV, which is where the “Home of Possibilities” branding earns its keep. Powered by UltraSense AI, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and audio tuned by KEF, it’s built for a household where movie night, PBA replays, and late-night YouTube spirals all happen on the same screen. And in the kitchen, a new Cooking Range with an AirFrying function and convection assistance quietly acknowledges that most home cooks want convenience without giving up control over what actually goes on the plate.
Zhang Yong, Haier Philippines’ Sales Director, put it simply during the event: the goal is putting these innovations in front of more Filipino families while deepening the partnership with Abenson, built on quality and value that make everyday life a little easier.
What struck us, watching KOLs demo a fridge like it was a new phone, is how normalized “smart” has become in categories we used to think of as purely functional. Nobody expects their air conditioner to have opinions about the room’s humidity. But somewhere along the way, we stopped accepting appliances that only work, in favor of ones that actually notice. That shift, quiet as it is, might be the more interesting launch than anything that happened on stage.
