#TheaterPH - Lipa Batangas Performing Arts Season now on its 7th!

Yes, far south of Manila is Lipa City, Batangas where arts and theater is surprisingly thriving. Many of its beloved artists has now decided to practice and create their arts within the walls of the picturesque Mount Malarayat Mountain Range and the world famous Bulkang Taal (Taal Volcano). Indeed there are wealth of inspiration at our provinces. 



Leading art initiatives for seven years now is Lipa Actors Company (LAC). After their 7th season opening that includes the Summer Arts Batangas and Bonbon Festival, they are now embarking on bigger and more challenging midseason list of shows. 

The 2016 MIDSEASON PERFORMANCES OF LIPA ACTORS COMPANY is presented by Lipa Actors Company and LTN Productions in cooperation with the Girl Scout of the Philippines - Batangas City Council with the support from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Batangas Dance & Theater Network and our Community Partners.

Happening on July 16, 2016, BALASUBAS, ABNORMAL IS NORMAL is part of LAC PERF LAB 2016. The event is a series of contemporary performances that deals with the derision of our belief, our faith, our philosophy and even our education, literature and arts. Also, this is the Actors take on anti-intellectualism its concept and misuse. Discover what it takes to be Balasubas with shows in Lipa City this July. Final shed to be announced. Balasubas is in cooperation with Batangas Dance & Theater Network and partner schools and universities and happening at Big Ben Complex, Lipa City.

On August 13 and 20, 2016, LIPA SA BISPERAS NG KALAYAAN will be staged which is a heritage based play inspired by Lipa Circa 1887. This play seeks to promote local history and tradition. It showcases kundiman music and folk dances as well as the oral tradition of speaking authentic tagalog. Also, the story depicts Filipino resistance to Spanish oppression and exploitation. Premiered in 2014 in Lipa City, Bisperas will be performed in Laguna as part of the 2016 CCP Local Tour Grants Program. 



On September 9 and 16, 2016, ANG AWIT NG ADARNA, ISANG MUSIKAL, one of LAC’s original musical written by Jobelle Umali, music by Kio Callado, Fernando Silva and Leila Villostas, co-written and directed by LAC Artistic Director Luisito Nario returns onstage with road shows in Batangas City. The Batangas show is co-presented by the Girl Scout of the Philippines Batangas City Chapter. 


Closing the mid-season is MILAGROS, ANG HULING MUTYA NG LUMANG LIPA which will be staged on December 10, 2016. This is the final book in a trilogy of plays entitled MGA MUTYA NG LIPA written by LAC Artistic Director Luisito Nario. This is based on the post-war Lipa in 1940's in a Marian apparition that allegedly took place in a small convent near the town proper.
