#CulturePH - 13 Full-Length Films That Are Part #Cinemalaya 2022 Announced!
Now on it's 18th year, Cinemalaya returns with new 13 full-length competing films. Since pandemic happened, the annual independent film festival was forced to go online due to restrictions and safety protocols established by the Philippine government. This year, they will be having in-person screening teasing avid viewers in several social media postings.
The 13 finalists include:
Torn between terminating or keeping her baby, 40-year-old Alice explores the first term of her pregnancy and learns what life truly means. |
While a mute couple decides on what to do with their marriage after they separated, they learned that it is not the disability to speak that tore them apart. |
For the SHORT FEATURE main competition, the finalists are:
1. “Ampangabagat nin Talakba ha Likol” (It’s Raining Frogs Outside) by Maria Estela Paiso
2. “Black Rainbow” by Zig Dulay
3. “City Of Flowers” by Xeph Suarez
4. “Dikit” by Gabriela Serrano
5. “Distance” by Dexter Paul de Jesus
6. “Duwa-Duwa” (The Play) by Nena Jana Achacoso
7. “Kwits” (Quits) by Raz de la Torre
8. “Mata Kang Busay” (Vision Of The Falls) by NiÅ„o Maldecir and Cypher John Gayorgor
9. “Mga Handum Nga Nasulat Sa Baras” (The Dreams That Are Written On The Sand) by Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay and Richard Jeroui Salvadico
10. “See You, George!” by Mark Moneda
11. “Si Oddie” by Maria Kydylee Torato
12. “Roundtrip To Happiness” by Claudia Fernando
The competing films will also be shown in select partner CINEMAS nationwide from August 10 to 17. After that, Cinemalaya goes to the regions, with screenings in selected communities on August 22 to 29.
For those who are still anxious to attend an in-person event, Cinemalaya will have an online run from October 17 to 31, 2022 via CCP Vimeo account.
A major component of the film festival, the Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, considered the longest-running independent film competition of its kind in the ASEAN region, will once again harvest the best films which will compete in various categories such as Short Feature/Narrative, Experimental, Documentary and Animation.
Finalists from the different categories in Gawad Alternatibo will be screened from August 6 to 8 at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde (CCP Dream Theater), while its Awarding will be on August 13.
The much-awaited Cinemalaya 2022 Awards Night will be held on August 14 at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater). Stay tune to follow us for more Cinemalaya Updates!
