CulturePH - Baragatan Festival 2022

The establishment of Palawan's civil government is commemorated during Baragatan. The festival's name, Baragatan, comes from a Cuyunon word that means "meeting," and in keeping with that meaning, it brings the people of Palawan together to commemorate their rich cultural heritage. The trade and food market, street dancing, cultural performances by various towns, businesses, and ethnic groups, as well as the crowning of Ms. Palawan, among the event's highlights.

After a protracted period of being unable to celebrate the legendary festival in Palawan due to recurrent lockdowns and the epidemic, the locals are eagerly expecting the event. After the news of the Baragatan Festival's return and the start of preparations for the event, the excitement among the locals increased.

Kalayaan, San Vicente, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Brooke's Point, El Nido, Magsaysay, and Quezon are the seven towns from different parts of the province of Palawan that participate in the yearly street dancing competition known as Saraotan sa Dalan. The street dance procession, which begins at Mendoza Park and travels along Rizal Avenue, Puerto Princesa City's main thoroughfare, passes through the city before arriving at the Provincial Capitol Compound for the showdown competition.

This year, the Saraotan sa Dalan delegations used dancing and colorful costumes to showcase the rich customs and history of their community. The performers' colorful outfits and accessories stand out. The streets are filled with a festive and joyful atmosphere as a result of the loud drumming.

The road closure at Fernandez St. from the intersection of Rizal Avenue to the gates of Cory Freedom Park, where the activities will take place mostly, is one of the preparations for the impending festival. The closure of the area is also designated for the Caraenan Food Fair every night.
