#CulturePH - Grab Philippines Launches Green Programme to Promote Sustainability for On-Demand Services
Grab Philippines is taking a big step towards a greener future with the launch of its Green Programme. This exciting initiative is all about promoting sustainability across Grab’s on-demand mobility and delivery services, and we’re here to give you all the details.
A New Way to Go Green
Starting February 27, 2025, Grab users can now contribute to environmental conservation with every ride or delivery. How? It’s simple! Grab has introduced a new toggle-on feature that allows you to donate PHP 2.00 for every GrabCar or GrabTaxi ride and PHP 1.00 for every GrabFood or GrabMart delivery. These small contributions can make a big difference.
Mangrove-Planting Project in La Union
One of the key initiatives of the Green Programme is a mangrove-planting project in Dulao Village, La Union. This project is a collaboration with local residents and farming communities, supported by EcoMatcher and FEED, a Philippine-based NGO focusing on sustainable education and tree planting. Together, they aim to restore, preserve, and protect biodiversity across the country.
How to Join the Green Programme
Joining the Green Programme is super easy. Just tap on "Account" and select "Support the Environment" to opt in or out with a simple toggle. You can also find this option before confirming any food or grocery delivery. For Grab mobility services, access the Green Programme toggle in the three-dot overflow menu of your booking screen. And don’t worry, you can opt out anytime.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Greg Camacho, Director for Strategy at Grab Philippines, shared his excitement: “In line with our ongoing commitment towards nation-building, Grab is focused on leveraging its tech and platform to cultivate a deep sense of sustainability and care for the environment across communities here in the Philippines. We are thankful for the outpouring support of our kababayans on the launch of this program, and we will continuously innovate and explore new pathways to make our services greener and reduce our carbon footprint, nurturing a sustainable future for every rider, driver, passenger, and consumer in the Grab superapp community.”
Regional Impact
The Green Programme also supports the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary project, which meets internationally recognized standards for carbon and biodiversity. This initiative helps protect and restore nearly 300,000 hectares of natural ecosystems while safeguarding 75 threatened species.
More Green Initiatives
Grab’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop there. They’ve also introduced options to opt out of receiving cutlery in food deliveries to minimize plastic waste and partnered with BYD to provide electric vehicles to Grab’s driver-partners throughout Southeast Asia. Plus, Grab has teamed up with Starbucks for the FoodShare Program, distributing unsold food to local nonprofits like the Philippine Food Bank Foundation to tackle food insecurity.
With the launch of the Green Programme, Grab continues to lead the way in promoting sustainable urban mobility and eco-friendly delivery services. Empower yourself to make eco-conscious choices and be part of this green movement.
