#CulturePH - Toycon Nexus 2026 Is Happening This June — And All Roads Lead to SMX
It’s June. You know what that means.
Toycon season is officially here — and before you even ask, yes, I’m already planning my fit, plotting my route around the dealer floor, and mentally preparing my wallet for what is about to happen.
This year, Toycon PH returns as TOYCON NEXUS, and I want to talk about why this particular edition feels like more than just another annual event. Because honestly? From everything I’ve seen and heard building up to it, this one might be the most meaningful gathering of Filipino fandom in years.
Here’s everything you need to know — and why you need to be there.
“Nexus” — And Why the Theme Actually Hits
Year 23. Let that marinate.
Toycon has been doing this since 2003, and it has never stopped growing. This year’s theme, “Nexus,” carries a rallying call: All Fandoms, One TOYCON. It’s not just a catchy tagline — it’s a declaration that this space belongs to everyone. Toy collectors. Anime fans. Gamers. Cosplayers. TCG players. Artists. Anyone who’s ever felt the particular joy of finding your people in a convention hall.
If last year’s theme was Celebration, this year is Connection. And that shift feels intentional and timely.
The Guest List Is Legitimately Unbelievable
Let me put this out there first because it’s the thing I keep going back to: Yoshitaka Amano is coming to Toycon.
Let that sink in. Yoshitaka Amano. The legendary Japanese artist behind the character designs of the original Final Fantasy series, Vampire Hunter D, and The Sandman: The Dream Hunters. One of the most iconic visual artists in the history of gaming and anime. And he’s coming here. To Manila. To our Toycon.
Reports say he rarely attends conventions even in Japan, which makes this feel like a once-in-a-generation moment for the Philippine fandom community. If you are a Final Fantasy kid, a lover of that distinct ethereal Amano aesthetic — this is a pilgrimage. You have to be in that room.
And then there’s Reiko Chiba — Mei, the Pink Ptera Ranger from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, the Super Sentai series that directly inspired Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. For an entire generation of Filipino kids who grew up screaming “Dino Buckler!” at the TV, this is a homecoming. She’s arriving courtesy of Retro Experience, and I already know the meet-and-greet line is going to wrap around the building.
Rounding out the guest announcements are Kamen Joshi (the Japanese idol group also known as Mask Girls), Eunji Pyo (Korean model and influencer making the trip from Seoul), and the J-pop duo Zackt. ザックト alongside local content creator Roxanne Kho. Plus the Umamusume: Pretty Derby fandom is getting their own dedicated Cos-Meet. Yes, this is real life.
Oh, and Alodia Gosiengfiao — the Queen of Philippine cosplay — is also set to make an appearance. The OGs will understand why that name still carries weight.
The Dealer Floor, the Drops, and the Damage to Your Bank Account
You already know: 400+ exhibitors is practically a given at this point for Toycon, and Nexus is no exception. The dealer floor is expected to be massive again, with established brands like Bandai, Tamashii Nations, Lego, and Bandai Namco sharing space with newer heavy-hitters.
The PopLife Festival is back in full partnership this year, and the exclusive drops coming through that partnership are the stuff collector dreams are made of — Thrilljoy and Collectormates are bringing fresh blind box exclusives, and Thrilljoy is also hosting the Asia Circus Manila on the evening of June 12 at Hall 4, featuring founder Brian Marriotti himself. (Separate ticket required, but honestly? Worth it.)
The Philippine Toy Collectors’ Group (PTGA) is also staging a proper Toy Gallery showcase — a curated display of prized collections from groups across the country. If you want to see what Filipino collectors are actually building, this is your window into that world.
Battlegrounds, TCG, and the Gaming Floor
Toycon Nexus is leaning even harder into gaming this year with the Battlegrounds area powered by MAD Events, featuring tournaments for Pokémon TCG, Magic: The Gathering, Teamfight Tactics, and even an Umamusume: Pretty Derby tournament that somehow combines cosplay and horse racing-inspired gameplay — and I am so here for the chaos of that.
The TCG Alley that debuted last year returns with more vendors, more rare pulls, and more opportunities to blow your budget on cardboard. If you’ve been sleeping on the TCG scene, Toycon Nexus is genuinely a great entry point — the community is welcoming, the selection is wide, and at least you’ll have company when you overspend.
Artist Alley, CosKon, and the Creative Heart of the Event
Here’s the part I always come back to, every single year: the Artist Alley.
Toycon’s Artist Alley is home to dozens of Filipino independent creators — toy designers, illustrators, small press makers, handcraft artists — and it is one of the most genuinely exciting retail experiences you can have in this country. I’ve discovered so many talented people just wandering these booths, and I mean discovered in the way that feels personal, like finding someone before the algorithm does.
This year’s spotlight artists include names like Liquid Anvil Toys, Mootangpak Studio, RocketRoj Collectibles, Kingless Studios, RMTagasa, DadiPanda Artworx, and many more. Support them. Buy something. Tell your friends.
CosKon — Toycon’s signature cosplay competition — returns with photography contests and full costume design judging. If you cosplay, or just love watching incredible craftsmanship walk the floor, this is your jam. And with the dedicated cosplay area and international guest cosplayers in the mix, the energy is going to be electric.
The Vibe You Can’t Get Anywhere Else
I want to be honest with you for a second.
I go to a lot of events. It’s literally part of what I do. And there’s a very specific feeling that only Toycon gives me — this mix of nostalgia and discovery and belonging that I don’t experience anywhere else. It’s the feeling of walking into a space where everyone gets it. Where the person beside you at a display case fully understands why you’re holding your breath over a figure. Where a stranger compliments your cosplay and you end up talking for twenty minutes about a fandom you both love.
Filipino geek and pop culture has always deserved a flagship space. Toycon is that space. And “Nexus” — the idea that all fandoms converge here — finally names something that has been true for a long time.
Whether you’re a lifelong collector, a first-timer who’s been curious, a parent bringing a kid who’s just starting to discover their fandoms, or a creative who wants to see what Philippine indie art looks like when it gets a whole convention floor — this is the weekend for you.
