#TheaterPH - A Journey You Can Hear: Why This Free FEU Concert Might Be the Treat Your January Needs
Some moments feel like little gifts dropped into the middle of our busy week—and a free piano concert that doubles as a time-traveling musical adventure definitely counts as one of them. If your year has been off to a hectic start, consider this your sign to slow down for an evening and let someone else do the storytelling… through 88 keys.
On January 21, the FEU Center for the Arts is opening the doors of the FEU Auditorium for Tones Through Time: A Musical Odyssey, a special concert led by Dr. Raffi Kasparian, D.M.A. The best part? Admission is completely free. No catch, no ticket price—just pure music and a rare chance to be swept through centuries of Western music in a single night.
What makes this concert irresistible isn’t just the repertoire (which spans everything from the elegance of the Baroque to the color and experimentation of the 20th century). It’s the artist leading the journey. Dr. Kasparian isn’t just a pianist—he’s a storyteller. His performances are known for weaving history, culture, and personal insight into each piece, making you feel like you’re inside the world where that music was born.
His life story alone feels like something out of a documentary: years spent performing across the U.S., Canada, and the Philippines; a long tenure as pianist for The United States Army Chorus, playing in places most of us only see on TV like the White House and the Kennedy Center; collaborations with the Manila Symphony Orchestra; and even concerts held at heritage sites like Paoay Church. And if you dive into his YouTube channel, Quantime Classics, you’ll find everything from classical staples to imaginative arrangements of popular and sacred music.
What’s even more fascinating is that alongside all of this, Dr. Kasparian maintained a career as a software engineer. Yes—music, math, and code all coexisting in one brain. He even co-authored Java for Artists, blending technical thinking with creativity in a way that somehow makes sense once you hear him play.
His long connection with the Philippines dates back to 1996 and eventually inspired the creation of the SILAW Foundation, one of the groups supporting this concert along with DZFE 98.7 FM. This stop at FEU is part of his 2026 Philippine tour, which includes performances in Ilocos Norte, Angeles City, UST, and the Manila Pianos showroom.
If you’re craving something soul-filling, nostalgic, inspiring—or even just a beautiful night that won’t cost you a thing—this is it. Bring a friend, a date, or your curious self. Just don’t forget to register; seats may fill up fast.
