#CulturePH - Finding the Harmony in Contrast: Why I’m Heading to "Kaleidoscope" at the Pen
If you’ve been following my journey this year, you know my theme for 2026 is Flourish. For me, flourishing isn't just about being busy; it’s about filling my life with experiences that actually mean something—events that challenge how I see art, music, and even a night out in Makati.
That’s why I’m so incredibly excited for the return of Medium Rare on Saturday, May 9. Their latest edition is titled Kaleidoscope, and honestly, the concept alone gives me chills.
The Magic of the "Space Between"
Think about a kaleidoscope for a second. You have these separate, random fragments of glass, but when they rotate together, they create a pattern that’s unexpected and beautiful.
That is exactly what Chef Chele Gonzalez and Samantha Nicole are doing at Salon de Ning. They are taking two worlds that seem "poles apart"—delicate Italian neoclassical piano and deep Spanish electronic techno—and proving they actually belong together.
A Night of Firsts and Masters
What makes this edition so personal for me is the sheer level of artistry coming to our shores:
The Atmospheric Soul of Spain: We’re hosting Pablo Bolívar. If you love music that feels like a mood—hypnotic, rhythmic, and deeply emotional—this is it. He’s been a pillar of the underground scene for over 20 years, and having the Embassy of Spain support his arrival shows just how big of a deal this cultural bridge is.
An Italian Debut: For the first time ever in Asia, we get to witness Bosco Studio. Lorenzo Travaglini and Davide Semmarchi are masters of that cinematic, "neoclassical" sound. It’s the kind of music that makes you stop breathing for a second because it’s so raw and piano-driven. It’s supported by the Philippine–Italian Association, and I can’t wait to see how their "forest" (Bosco) sounds translate into the opulence of the Peninsula.
More Than Just a Party
From 7:00 PM all the way until 4:00 AM, this isn't your typical club night. It’s a marathon of the senses.
As someone who spends a lot of time in the Makati art scene, I appreciate that this isn't "mainstream." It’s "Rare." It’s a space where we can enjoy world-class gastronomy curated by Chef Chele while losing ourselves in a visual and auditory story. It’s about blurring the lines between what we eat, what we hear, and what we feel.
Will I see you there?
Spaces at Salon de Ning are notoriously intimate, and because this is such a unique international lineup, tickets are strictly limited. This is for the dreamers, the tastemakers, and anyone who—like me—wants to see Manila's nightlife flourish into something more sophisticated.
When: Saturday, May 9, 2026
Where: Salon de Ning, The Peninsula Manila
The Experience: A 9-hour journey through music, art, and flavor.
Let’s experience the Kaleidoscope together. Grab your tickets early—this is one pattern you don't want to miss. [Link to Tickets]
