#CulturePH - She Matters: When Women’s Health Shapes the World
One of the key discussions was cardiometabolic health—conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and PCOS that often go unnoticed in women until they become serious. What struck me was how subtle the symptoms can be, and how easily they’re brushed aside. The summit emphasized the importance of early screening, which feels like a call to action for all of us to pay closer attention to our bodies and not wait until things escalate.
Thyroid health also came into focus. It’s a small gland, but its impact is huge—affecting energy, fertility, mood, and pregnancy outcomes. Experts highlighted how thyroid disorders often remain undiagnosed, especially during pregnancy, and how awareness could change maternal and child health outcomes in the Philippines. It’s a reminder that sometimes the smallest things carry the biggest weight in our wellbeing.
What I found most inspiring was how the summit connected health to the economy and the planet. Healthy women mean stronger participation in society—whether as professionals, caregivers, or leaders. And when conversations turned to environmental exposures like microplastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals, it became clear that protecting women’s health is inseparable from protecting the planet.
Even from afar, the summit felt like a powerful platform for advocacy. It wasn’t just about medicine—it was about collaboration, policy, and the recognition that women’s health is central to everything. And that’s something worth carrying forward, whether we were in the room or not.
