#CulturePH - Randy O. Man: When Filipino Menswear Decides to Take Center Stage Again

Every once in a while, an invitation lands that makes you pause—not because of the dress code, but because of what it represents. March 19 feels exactly like that kind of moment. At sunset inside The Peninsula Manila, designer Randy Ortiz steps back into a space that feels deeply personal, unveiling his very first major men’s show. The title alone, Randy O. Man, already hints at confidence, conviction, and a quiet challenge to what Filipino menswear has been taught to be.

This collection doesn’t box itself into a single season or mood. It flows between spring-summer ease and fall-winter polish, moving seamlessly from club-ready looks to lounge staples, relaxed leisure fits, and sharply cut formalwear. Color takes its own journey—fresh and energetic hues woven alongside cooler pastels, grounded earthy tones, and those darker, bolder palettes that feel undeniably powerful. The silhouettes shift too, giving movement and character to clothes meant to live outside the runway and into real, busy lives.

What makes this show feel even more special is the intention behind it. This isn’t about spectacle for spectacle’s sake. For Randy, it’s about bringing men’s fashion back into the retail conversation and speaking directly to the modern Filipino man—one who cares about how he looks, how he feels, and how he shows up in the world. Vanity, in this context, feels less like excess and more like self-respect.

The evening itself promises to be a full sensory experience. With direction by Jackie Aquino of JCA Productions and event collaboration from Angel Ortiz of AF Eventbiz, the show brings together fashion, sound, and storytelling. Music flows from a live saxophonist into DJ sets by Bombi Balquiedra, layered with reels, live LED broadcasts, and real-time social media streaming. About 30 of the strongest male and female models—local and international—walk the runway, joined by surprise muses who move industries both onstage and off.

Behind the scenes, the collaboration list reads like a who’s who of creative excellence. From Eric Maningat’s grooming and the visual storytelling of Lito Sy Photography and Jason Magbanua Film, to the mood-setting furniture by Moodie and lighting by Forsc Ink, everything feels intentional. Even the small indulgences—Ralph’s Wines, SMB Premium Beers, Pilgrims Coffee, FIC Ice Cream—add to the atmosphere of a night designed to be remembered, not rushed.

What makes Randy O. Man resonate on a deeper level is Randy Ortiz himself. Nearly four decades in the industry have given him a front-row seat to some of the finest tailoring the country has seen—crafting formal wear for grooms, celebrities, CEOs, and public servants. The work paid the bills and built the legacy, yet the pull toward contemporary ready-to-wear menswear never left. That pull first shook Manila in the 1990s during Moda Maynila at the Manila Hotel, when an all-men’s collection pushed boundaries in an era dominated by safe basics. Print-on-print, unexpected color combinations, and layered pieces challenged comfort zones long before it felt normal.

Fast forward to now, and the landscape looks different. Post-pandemic life nudged Filipino men toward broader self-expression—haircare routines, skincare regimens, fitness goals, luxury watches, dream cars. Fashion naturally followed. Randy sees this shift clearly and steps right back to his roots, armed with experience, instinct, and that unmistakable “randy dandy” signature that once shook retail aisles. The difference this time lies in timing. The audience feels ready.

Randy O will always carry his stamp, yet the collection reflects how far Filipino menswear has evolved. It feels confident without shouting, daring without losing refinement. Retail availability comes next, which makes this show not just a celebration, but a promise of what everyday dressing could look like going forward.

March 19 isn’t just a date on the fashion calendar. It feels like a full-circle moment—for a designer, for menswear, and for men who finally feel seen by what they wear.
