#CulturePH - Batang Matatag: Building a Healthier Future Together
In a heartwarming collaboration, Erceflora Probiotics and Save the Children Philippines have teamed up with the Manila Water Foundation to bring the Batang Matatag Campaign to even more Filipino families. This inspiring initiative, launched in 2022, is dedicated to improving health and hygiene for children and communities across the Philippines.
A Mission for Healthier Kids
The Batang Matatag Campaign was born out of a pressing need to address health issues caused by inadequate access to clean water and proper hygiene facilities. By focusing on gut health and hygiene education, the campaign aims to create lasting change in vulnerable communities. With the Manila Water Foundation now on board, the campaign is set to expand its reach, bringing more handwashing stations and water pumps to schools and communities nationwide.
Making a Difference
Rica Mae Mateo from Erceflora Probiotics passionately shares, “Investing in our children’s gut health and hygiene is investing in our future. The Batang Matatag Campaign calls on all of us to play a part in building a healthier, stronger Philippines where every child has the chance to reach their full potential.”
Since its inception, the campaign has made significant strides. In its first year, it reached over 19,477 individuals in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), trained over 1,000 adolescents in essential life skills, educated 500 residents on child health and nutrition, and achieved a remarkable 100% improvement in health levels within the communities it served.
Expanding Horizons
This year, Batang Matatag has extended its efforts to the Rizal province in Luzon. The campaign has conducted hygiene promotion sessions, WASH caravans, and nutrition promotion sessions, benefiting thousands of students and schools. Notably, 2,500 hygiene kits were distributed to students, and Brigada Eskwela cleaning kits were provided to 126 schools in Rizal and BARMM.
School clinicians and nurses in 68 public schools in Antipolo were also educated about the role of probiotics and effective diarrhea management among school children, further amplifying the campaign’s impact.
Community Empowerment
Through the construction of new water pumps and handwashing stations, the campaign has positively impacted 65,007 individuals in both provinces. Mateo adds, “We are incredibly proud of Batang Matatag's impact in its first year, and thrilled to expand our reach to Luzon. With the support of our partners and communities, we are committed to continuing this vital work and ensuring that every Filipino child has the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong.”
How You Can Help
Families can also contribute to this noble cause. With every purchase of Erceflora Probiotics, a portion of the sale is donated to the #BatangMatatag Campaign. These funds help build more WASH facilities and create more hygiene education programs for vulnerable communities and partner schools across the country.
