#TravelPH - Love on the Horizon: Why Discovery Samal Just Landed on My February Wishlist
I haven’t been to Discovery Samal yet, but lately it feels like the universe has been dropping hints for me to go. Maybe it’s the way everyone talks about Samal Island with that little sigh at the end, or maybe it’s the dreamy Valentine offerings that had me mentally packing a suitcase before I even finished reading about them.
What caught my attention first was how the resort is turning February into a full-on celebration of connection — not the overly staged, stiff kind, but the cozy, fireworks-in-the-heart sort of moments we all secretly want more of.
They’re hosting special Valentine dinners on February 13 and 14, and the setup sounds like the kind of evening you’d remember long after the month is over. Morning Catch is serving a generous buffet — seafood, grilled favorites, comfort food, the works — all paired with live music and ocean views. Even from a distance, I can imagine the sound of the waves blending in with the band like an extra instrument.
Haribar Lounge, on the other hand, seems perfect for couples (or honestly, anyone) who love slow, mellow nights with cocktails that tell a story. They’re known for their signature drinks and curated spirits, and something about the whole oceanfront vibe just feels effortlessly romantic.
And then there’s The Bistro — their intimate five‑course dinner option that feels designed for people who love savoring an experience from the first bite to the last. Saffron, pistachio, Australian Wagyu ribeye, scallops, cardamom mousse… the menu alone feels like a trip.
But the part that really made me pause was the “Songs of the Heart” event happening later in the month. Daryl Ong performing under island skies? A glamping soirée buffet? Unlimited spirits? A fire exhibition dance?? It’s the kind of night that sounds like a mix of concert energy and date-night magic. Even reading about it gave me a little flutter of FOMO.
What I appreciate most is how Discovery Samal seems to understand the heart of February. Not the commercial kind — but the tender, human kind. The kind that reminds you that love lives in the quiet moments, the shared meals, the slow dances, the soft conversations that happen when the world finally stops rushing.
I haven’t stepped foot on Samal Island yet, but this Valentine lineup genuinely makes me want to. Maybe it’s time I carve out my own “moment made for love” — with someone special or even just with myself. After all, a beautiful island, good food, and music under the stars… who could resist?
