#FoodPH - A Taste of Home: Why My Next Food Trip is Happening at the Mall

There’s something incredibly grounding about rediscovering the flavors of our own backyard. While I usually spend my weekends pounding the pavement in BGC or hunting for the next hidden gem in Makati, I’ve realized that some of the most inspiring culinary stories aren't found in a permanent storefront, but in the hands of local entrepreneurs bringing their regional pride to the city.

This coming
April 8 to 12, 2026, I’m planning to clear my schedule for the 2026 DTI–Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair
. It’s taking over the Megatrade Halls at SM Megamall, and honestly, it feels less like a trade show and more like a massive reunion of Filipino talent. With over 320 MSMEs coming in from all over Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, it’s basically a road trip across the Philippines without the long-haul flights.
.
What really pulls me into events like this are the human stories behind the products. This year, the fair is spotlighting food concepts developed by former OFWs who have come home to build their own businesses. Transitioning from working abroad to becoming an entrepreneur is such a brave move, and I love that we get to support their sustainable livelihoods just by showing up and enjoying what they’ve created.
.
I’m also curious to see how our humble coconut is being reinvented. It’s one of our biggest agricultural stars, and the fair is highlighting its versatility and export potential in a big way. Plus, for those of us looking for more inclusive food options, there’s a dedicated Halal segment featuring certified and Halal-ready products, which is a great step toward making our local food scene more globally competitive.
.
Beyond the rows of snacks and ingredients, the fair is a space for real connection. While I’ll be there for the product sampling and live demonstrations, there’s also a Business Connect Lounge where these small business owners can meet institutional buyers to secure long-term partnerships. It’s a reminder that every bite we take supports a much larger ecosystem of Filipino resilience and innovation..

Admission is free, so it’s an easy way to spend an afternoon supporting local. Whether you’re a serious foodie or just looking for something new to stock your pantry, it’s a beautiful way to celebrate the flavors that make us feel at home.
