#CulturePH - OPM Takes Center Stage: Sony Music Artists Shine at the First Filipino Music Awards
There’s something magical about seeing your favorite artists take home big wins—and the inaugural Filipino Music Awards was packed with moments that made every OPM fan proud. The energy at SM Mall of Asia Arena was electric as more than 500 artists, industry leaders, and thousands of fans came together to celebrate the heart and soul of Filipino music.
Sony Music Philippines absolutely dominated the night, with their artists racking up nine major awards. SB19 led the charge, sweeping six honors including Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Concert of the Year, and multiple People’s Choice Awards. Their hit single “DUNGKA!” from the EP Simula At Wakas was everywhere, proving just how much their music resonates with fans across the country.
It wasn’t just SB19 lighting up the stage. IV of Spades made a triumphant comeback, winning Rock Song of the Year for “Aura”—a track that’s been climbing the charts and selling out concerts months in advance. Rising singer-songwriter dwta also took home Folk Song of the Year for “Sampung Mga Daliri,” a collaboration with SB19’s justin. Her win is a testament to the growing diversity and creativity in the local scene, especially with her recent work on soundtracks and viral hits.
Sony Music Philippines was also named Music Company of the Year, cementing their role as a powerhouse in the industry. Leaders like Kevin Foo and Roslyn Pineda shared how these wins reflect the hard work, passion, and creativity of their artists and teams—and their commitment to supporting Filipino musicians as they reach new heights, both locally and globally.
The night wasn’t just about trophies. The FMA stage came alive with performances from IV of Spades, Ely Buendia, Gloc-9, and a show-stopping finale featuring SB19 and Ben&Ben performing “Kapangyarihan” together for the first time. It was a moment that captured the spirit of OPM—collaborative, powerful, and full of heart.
The Filipino Music Awards marked a new chapter for OPM, celebrating the creativity, diversity, and global potential of Filipino music. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering the scene, it’s clear that the future of OPM is brighter than ever.
