Cebu was on fire last May 24 as the country’s top street dancers brought their A-game to the Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines National Final. For the first time ever, the Queen City of the South played host to this high-energy showdown—and it did not disappoint.
The spotlight belonged to Sam Rivera, better known in the dance scene as Nemesis, who claimed the championship title after three years of relentless pursuit. With a powerful mix of krump, charisma, and crowd connection, Nemesis didn’t just win the battle—she owned the stage.
“This was my third time joining Red Bull Dance Your Style,” she shared. “Winning in my hometown, with my family and friends cheering me on, made it even more special. I felt empowered.”
The crowd at Ayala Center Cebu was electric, cheering on dancers as they battled it out in styles ranging from hip-hop and house to waacking, locking, and voguing. But it was Nemesis’ raw energy and authenticity that captured the audience—and the crown.
Now, she’s headed to Los Angeles to represent the Philippines at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final on October 11. It’ll be her first time traveling outside of Asia, and she’s ready to show the world what Filipino dancers are made of.
“I’ll train my body, mind, and soul,” she said. “It’s all about balance—faith, physical strength, and mental focus. But most of all, I’ll just be myself. That’s what makes each dancer unique.”
The event wasn’t just about competition—it was a celebration of Cebu’s vibrant urban culture. From the beats of local star Karencitta to the moves of dance crew SZHD, the night was a full-on festival of creativity and community.
As Nemesis gears up for the global stage, the support from her hometown and the entire country is stronger than ever. Her journey is a reminder that persistence, passion, and staying true to yourself can take you all the way.
