#MusicPH - GIVĒON Leans Into Love and Vulnerability with New Single “Rather Be”
There’s something magnetic about GIVĒON’s voice—deep, textured, and full of emotion. And in his latest release, “Rather Be,” the seven-time GRAMMY® nominee invites us into a space that feels both intimate and cinematic.
The new single, accompanied by a visually stunning music video directed by Loris Russier, is a soulful ballad that captures the quiet strength of choosing love, flaws and all. With production credits from Sevn Thomas, Maneesh, Matthew Burnett, jeff gitty, and jahaan sweet, “Rather Be” is rich with the sonic details fans have come to adore—horns that swell, lyrics that linger, and a vocal performance that’s as raw as it is refined.
A Love Song Rooted in Realness
“This song is a reflection on acceptance,” GIVĒON shares. “It’s about loving someone not for who they could be, but for who they are.” That sentiment is woven into every note, as the music video paints a picture of connection and quiet longing. Set in airy, elegant spaces, GIVĒON and his sharply dressed ensemble deliver a live performance that feels like a whispered confession.
A Milestone Year for GIVĒON
2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for the Long Beach native. He recently celebrated the five-year anniversary of his breakout TAKE TIME EP with an intimate performance in Los Angeles, attended by industry icons like Sylvia Rhone, Lena Waithe, Amerie, and Jimmy Jam.
His previous single, “Twenties,” has already made waves—landing in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart and racking up over 12 million views on YouTube. It also earned him his fourth solo Hot 100 hit and a live performance slot at Prada’s pre-Met Gala event, where he serenaded a star-studded crowd including Tracee Ellis Ross and Hunter Schafer.
And the momentum doesn’t stop there. GIVĒON is also nominated for a 2025 BET Award for Best Collaboration, thanks to his heartfelt duet with Teddy Swims, “Are You Even Real.”
