#ArtPH - Demi Padua’s “Layers and Shadows” Opens at the National Museum of Fine Arts

This August, the National Museum of Fine Arts becomes the canvas for a compelling new exhibition that invites viewers to look deeper—into the art, into themselves, and into the layers that shape our stories. “Layers and Shadows” by acclaimed Filipino artist Demi Padua opens to the public from August 13 to 26, 2025, at the Sergio Osmeña Hall, and it’s a must-see for anyone who appreciates the power of visual storytelling.

Presented in partnership with the Asian Cultural Council Philippines (ACCP), the exhibition is part of ACCP’s 25th anniversary celebration and reflects its ongoing commitment to cultural exchange and artistic development. Through the ACC Philippine Fellowship Program, the organization continues to support Filipino artists, scholars, and cultural practitioners in expanding their reach and refining their craft.

Padua’s work is known for its intricate trompe l’oeil technique and emotionally resonant portraits. In “Layers and Shadows,” he explores themes of identity, aspiration, and transformation through large-scale acrylic paintings that are as technically impressive as they are thought-provoking. Each piece—like Wishing Upon Dreams, Cleaner Suit, Golden Queen, I Could Be On Top, and Recycled Future—is framed to draw the viewer into a layered narrative, where shadows hint at stories untold.

This exhibition is made possible through the generous support of DF Art Agency, Demi Padua himself, and The Good Hope Future Foundation, with all proceeds going toward the ACC Philippines Fellowship Program. It’s a beautiful example of how art can inspire, connect, and uplift—not just through what’s seen on canvas, but through the opportunities it creates beyond the gallery walls.
