#TheaterPH - A Night of Theater, Passion, and Purpose: “13th of September” Takes the Stage Before Flying to Monaco
There’s something magical about a story that dares to challenge, provoke, and inspire—and this August 10, that magic comes alive at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. “13th of September,” a bold and emotionally charged theatrical production, is set to captivate audiences in a special fundraising send-off show before it heads to the global stage in Monaco.
Presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Be Our Guest Theater (BOGT) Philippines, this one-day-only event is more than just a performance—it’s a celebration of Filipino artistry and resilience. The show will run at 3 PM and 7 PM at Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, with proceeds supporting the Philippine delegation’s participation in the prestigious 18th Mondial du Théâtre in Monaco this August 20–27.
🎟️ Tickets are priced at ₱1,000 (center) and ₱800 (sides), available via Ticketworld, the CCP Box Office, or this link.
A Reimagined Classic with a Fierce Filipino Spirit
“13th of September” is a powerful adaptation of Lanie Robertson’s The Insanity of Mary Girard, reimagined by three-time Palanca awardee Eljay Castro Deldoc. Under the visionary direction of ALIW and LEAF awardee Riki Benedicto, the play explores themes of injustice, empowerment, and the fragile boundaries of sanity.
Taking center stage is acclaimed director and actor Andoy Ranay, who steps into the haunting role of Mary Girard. He’s joined by seasoned performers Lao Rodriguez and Drew Espenocilla, each bringing depth and intensity to a story that’s as relevant today as it was in the 18th century.
From Manila to Monaco: A Journey Fueled by Passion
BOGT Philippines isn’t new to the international spotlight. After successful runs in Canada (2019) and Germany (2021, 2022), the group is now set to represent the Philippines at the Mondial du Théâtre—an elite global theater festival held every four years in Monaco. This marks only the second time the Philippines has been invited to participate since 1997.
The delegation includes a powerhouse creative team: Katreen Dela Cruz (production/stage manager), JayLo Conanan (production designer), Roldan Lozano (lighting designer), and Ces Valera (projection designer). Together, they form a passionate ensemble determined to showcase the richness of Philippine theater on the world stage.
Why This Matters
At its core, “13th of September” is more than a play—it’s a statement. It’s about reclaiming one’s voice in the face of oppression, about confronting the ghosts of the past, and about daring to be seen and heard. It’s a story that resonates deeply, especially in a time when conversations around mental health, gender, and justice are more important than ever.
