#CulturePH - How One Dog, One Run, and One Bowl of Kibble Can Change Everything
Some stories don’t need a dramatic plot twist to hit you right in the heart. Sometimes, it’s just a dog with three legs, a crowd of strangers running for a cause, and a bowl of food that says, “You matter.” That’s exactly what happened at this year’s Run Fur Life in Manila—a celebration of pet adoption, resilience, and the kind of love that rewrites lives.
Held on September 28, the event marked the 10th anniversary of Animal Kingdom Foundation’s signature run, and this year, it teamed up with Mars Philippines for the second annual Global Adoption Weekend. The goal? To remind us that adopting a shelter pet doesn’t just change one life—it changes two. Yours and theirs. The star of the day was BB, a tripod dog rescued by AKF volunteers who’s now become a furry icon for second chances. Watching BB trot alongside more than 1,000 participants—both human and canine—was a moment. Not just because it was cute (it was), but because it made something clear: shelter pets aren’t broken. They’re brave. And they’re ready to love.
Mars, the pet care company behind PEDIGREE®, WHISKAS®, ROYAL CANIN®, and CESAR®, has been working in the Philippines for over 30 years, building partnerships with NGOs, vets, and communities to tackle pet homelessness. This year, they’re going even further. In October, every purchase of PEDIGREE® or WHISKAS® from their official stores on Shopee, Lazada, or TikTok will help fill the bowls of shelter pets across the country. That’s more than 30,000 daily meals donated—one bite closer to a better life.
And for those thinking about adoption, Mars and AKF have created www.WeR4HappyTails.com, a portal that connects future pet parents with cats and dogs waiting for their forever homes. It’s not just a directory—it’s a doorway to companionship, healing, and joy.
The numbers are telling: 83% of people worldwide say their pet has improved their mental wellbeing. In the Philippines, nearly half of Gen Z dog owners and 42% of young cat owners say their pets are the most important part of their lives. That’s not just a trend—it’s a truth. Pets aren’t accessories. They’re family.
So maybe this October, instead of scrolling past another adoption post, you pause. You click. You meet a dog like BB. And maybe, just maybe, you let your life get changed—for the better.
Because in the end, it’s not just about saving a pet. It’s about finding the one who saves you right back. #TwoLivesChanged.
