#TheaterPH - Dear Evan Hansen Manila: Making Theatre More Inclusive with Filipino Sign Language

There’s a new reason to celebrate in Manila’s theatre scene—Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, is taking a big step toward inclusivity. GMG Productions has announced a special sign language-interpreted performance, ensuring that the Deaf community can fully experience the emotion, storytelling, and music that have made this show a global sensation.

This October 2, the Theatre at Solaire will welcome Deaf audience members with a live Filipino Sign Language (FSL) interpretation, thanks to the collaboration between GMG Productions and the talented interpreters and consultants from Benilde’s Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) and the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies - Interpreting Education Program (SDEAS-IEP). It’s a move that goes beyond accessibility—it’s about making everyone feel seen, heard, and included.

Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, shared, “Dear Evan Hansen carries a deep message, one that reminds us that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and understood. This is why we are proud to make this production more inclusive by offering an FSL interpreted performance.” The team’s commitment to accessibility is clear, with a dedicated orchestra section reserved for Deaf guests and their companions, ensuring the best possible view of the interpreters. Special discounts are also available, making the experience even more welcoming.

Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of Evan, an anxious high school student searching for belonging. The show’s themes of connection, honesty, and hope resonate with audiences everywhere—and now, thanks to this inclusive performance, even more people can share in its powerful message.
