#MusicPH - Dancing with Tchaikovsky: A Night of Timeless Melodies and Artistic Brilliance
Step into a world where music and storytelling intertwine, as the Manila Symphony Orchestra Foundation Inc. and Standard Insurance, in partnership with EastWest Bank, present “Dancing with Tchaikovsky” at Aliw Theater, Pasay City, on September 27, 2025. This much-anticipated concert promises an evening filled with the lush romance and grandeur of Russian classical music, featuring some of Tchaikovsky’s most beloved works.
The program opens with the majestic Festival Coronation March, a piece originally composed for Tsar Alexander III’s coronation. Its brass fanfares and festive rhythms set the stage for a celebration that’s both regal and universally appealing. Next, audiences will be treated to the Rococo Variations for Cello and Orchestra—a tribute to Mozart’s elegance, demanding both technical mastery and heartfelt lyricism from the soloist.
The magic continues with a suite from the ballet Sleeping Beauty, where graceful waltzes and enchanting adagios evoke the fairytale charm that has captivated generations. Each note, each movement, is a testament to Tchaikovsky’s genius for weaving emotion and narrative into unforgettable melodies.
This special evening features Russian guest conductor Alexander Vikulov, whose international career bridges opera, ballet, and symphonic music. Born in Saint Petersburg to renowned ballet dancers, Vikulov has led performances at prestigious venues worldwide and now brings his artistry to Manila. Joining him is cello prodigy Damodar Das Castillo, a top prizewinner in five international competitions and a scholar of the MSJO–Standard Insurance International Scholarship Program. Castillo’s performance promises to be a highlight, showcasing the next generation of musical talent.
