#CulturePH - Meet the Next Generation of Filipino Playwrights: CCP Announces Fellows for Virgin Labfest XX
There’s something magical about the theater—its ability to reflect life, challenge perspectives, and stir emotions. And behind every powerful performance is a playwright whose words bring the stage to life. This June, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is once again shining a spotlight on emerging voices in Philippine theater through the Virgin Labfest XX Writing Fellowship Program (VLF XX WFP).
After a rigorous selection process, eight promising playwrights have been chosen to take part in this year’s intensive two-week mentorship program, which runs from June 17 to 29, 2025, both online and onsite at the CCP Complex.
This Year’s Writing Fellows

- Aldrine Anzures
- Princess Joy Buenafe
- Mark Joseph Briones
- Laurence Miguel De Vera

These fellows will be mentored by none other than Glenn Sevilla Mas, a multi-awarded playwright known for his compelling narratives and deep understanding of the craft. Over the course of the program, participants will dive into lectures, workshops, and script critiques, gaining valuable insights into the art and discipline of dramatic writing.
More Than Just a Workshop
The VLF XX WFP isn’t just about writing—it’s about immersion. Fellows will have access to this year’s Virgin Labfest XX: HINOG plays, participate in talkbacks, and engage with some of the country’s most respected playwrights and directors. It’s a rare opportunity to learn, connect, and grow within a vibrant creative community.
And the impact of this program is undeniable. Several alumni from past fellowships are now featured in this year’s festival lineup, including Ivan Villacorta Gentolizo, Chris Joseph Junio, Harvey Rebaya Sallador, Mikaella Yoj, Jobert Grey Landeza, and Jhudiel Clare D. Sosa—proof that the VLF Writing Fellowship is a true launchpad for emerging talent.
A Showcase of New Voices
The program will culminate in a stage reading showcase of the fellows’ original works on June 29, 2025, at 5:00 PM, held at the Bulwagang Roberto Chabet, Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, CCP Complex. It’s a chance to witness fresh stories take shape and hear the voices of tomorrow’s theater.
