#MusicPH - Nicole Asensio Makes History at Café Carlyle Hong Kong: A Jazz Journey Like No Other
There are moments in life when art, fate, and passion collide—and for Nicole Laurel Asensio, June 2025 is one of those moments. The multi-awarded Filipina singer-songwriter is stepping into the spotlight as the first Philippine-based artist to hold a residency at the prestigious Café Carlyle in Hong Kong, a venue known for its rich musical heritage and intimate, world-class performances.
A Stage Steeped in Legacy
Café Carlyle, inspired by its iconic New York namesake, is more than just a venue—it’s a cultural experience. Nestled within Carlyle & Co., a private members’ club under the Rosewood Hotel Group, the space is a blend of old-world charm and modern elegance. It’s the kind of place where music isn’t just heard—it’s felt.
And now, Nicole is bringing her signature blend of jazz, soul, and storytelling to this storied stage. From June 18 to mid-July, she’ll perform sixteen shows alongside an ensemble of international jazz musicians, including her longtime collaborator and co-writer, Gabe Dandan.
A Dream Born of Serendipity
Nicole’s journey to Café Carlyle wasn’t planned—it was pure serendipity. What began as a casual vacation to Hong Kong turned into a life-changing opportunity when she received a message from the venue’s Director of Music, Francisco Ricafort. A few video submissions later, Nicole found herself preparing to perform on the same stage as artists she once admired from afar.
“I didn’t even need a cocktail to feel intoxicated,” she recalls of her first visit to Café Carlyle. “The creative energy, the music, the ambiance—it was all so surreal. I knew I had to be part of it.”
A Voice That Transcends Borders
Nicole’s artistry is rooted in heritage and honed by experience. With a voice that channels the soul of jazz legends and a style that’s uniquely her own, she’s captivated audiences from Tokyo to Barcelona, from the Maldives to the U.S. Her performances are more than just concerts—they’re cultural exchanges, where she brings a piece of the Philippines to every stage she graces.
This residency is not just a personal milestone—it’s a cultural one. Nicole is not only representing herself but also the vibrant, evolving sound of Filipino music on a global platform.
A Feast for the Senses
In true Café Carlyle fashion, the experience goes beyond music. Guests can look forward to a curated menu inspired by Nicole’s heritage, adding a flavorful layer to the evening’s storytelling. “It’s exciting to see how the chefs are weaving my roots into the dining experience,” she shares. “It’s a thoughtful touch that makes every night feel special.”
