#CulturePH - Volunteering with Heart: How SM Cares is Inspiring a Nation to Give Back
In a world that often feels fast-paced and disconnected, it’s refreshing to see communities come together for something bigger than themselves. This National Volunteerism Month, SM Cares is shining a spotlight on the power of collective action—and how everyday people can make an extraordinary impact.
From coastal cleanups to classroom makeovers, SM Cares has been rallying its employee-volunteers, tenants, and community partners all year long. The goal? To build a more compassionate, resilient, and sustainable Philippines.
A Year of Purposeful Action
Whether it’s painting school walls during Brigada Eskwela, distributing relief packs through Operation Tulong Express, or walking in solidarity during Happy Walk and ASP Angels Walk, SM’s volunteers are showing up with heart and purpose. In 2024 alone, over 1,500 SM employees took part in these initiatives—proof that the spirit of giving is alive and well.
And it doesn’t stop there. More than 27,000 volunteers joined forces for large-scale coastal cleanup drives, while the Global Youth Summit brought together nearly a thousand student leaders ready to take on the world with empathy and action.
Powered by Partnerships
These efforts are made even more impactful through collaborations with organizations like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Education (DepEd), and the Global Peace Foundation. Together, they’re creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to step up and make a difference.
More Than Just Volunteering
What sets SM Cares apart is its belief that volunteerism isn’t just about giving time—it’s about building bridges. As SM Supermalls President Steven Tan puts it, “Through volunteerism, we build bridges of empathy, understanding, and shared purpose.”
It’s a reminder that anyone—regardless of age, ability, or background—can be a changemaker.
Want to be part of something meaningful? SM Cares invites everyone to join their upcoming volunteer activities and discover how small acts of kindness can create lasting change. Because when we come together, we don’t just help others—we uplift entire communities.
