#TheaterPH - Virgin Labfest XX: Hinog — Set D: May Asim Pa is exactly that: ripe, potent, and packed with bite.
If you've ever found yourself caught between silence and truth, longing and duty, or tradition and identity, this trio of plays will hit you where it hurts—and heals.
Let’s talk about it.
Anniversary by Nelsito Gomez
Grief is a language we all eventually speak, but few are fluent in. Anniversary captures that haunting quiet of memory meeting chance—with just two characters at a cemetery bench, I found myself holding my breath. Rob’s encounter with the feisty May isn’t just a conversation—it’s a reckoning. It reminded me of my own unexpected conversation with a stranger after losing someone dear; how sometimes it takes someone outside your orbit to name what you haven’t dared to feel.
Don’t Meow for Me, Catriona by Ryan Machado
This one gutted me. In a dim terminal, with no bus in sight, a daughter and mother wait—not just for transport, but for permission to let go. This story speaks for every caregiver who has lost parts of themselves in duty, and for every parent who clings a little too tightly out of fear. The dialogue rings true to anyone who's ever stood at the intersection of freedom and guilt. I saw echoes of my own mother here—the love, the longing, the weight of it all.
